Booking a road test at the Richmond Lansdowne ICBC office can be difficult due to high demand. While many students see "no appointments available," we have confirmed through our regular professional contact with ICBC officials that the system is constantly moving and updating throughout the day. Here is how our students are able to book a perfect slot to pass their road test:
There is a common myth that the system only updates at midnight. However, we have confirmed that slots actually become available throughout the day as other people cancel or reschedule.
Important Note: Cancellations are not reflected on the website in real-time. It often takes an hour or two for the system to process a change and show the opening to the public.
Our Advice: Check the portal 2–3 times per day whenever you are free. Persistence is the most effective way to find a spot.
From time to time, ICBC opens up new blocks of appointments when additional examiner resources become available. These updates are not on a fixed schedule, so checking the site regularly is the only way to catch them.
ICBC charges a $25 fee if a student cancels or reschedules with less than 48 hours' notice. Because of this, many "panic-cancellations" occur exactly 48 to 72 hours before a test date.
The "Pass Way": If you have completed our curriculum and your skills are test-ready, make yourself available for these last-minute openings. Grabbing a cancellation is the fastest way to get your license.
Certainly, there are some time slots that are better than others. Traffic patterns, school zone activity, and examiner shifts all impact the test's complexity.
Expert Strategy: We will go through these road test time-slot selection techniques during the exam information session of your lessons. Choosing a time that fits your driving strengths is a key part of our training.
If you cannot find an available slot online but you are free on Saturday and your skills are fully ready, you may take a Standby Road Test.
How it works: You can join the queue at the Richmond Lansdowne office early on Saturday mornings (around 8:15 AM).
The Reality: You must be prepared to wait for an hour or two to see if a "no-show" occurs. We only recommend this if you don't mind the wait and are 100% prepared to drive.
If you have newly arrived in Canada and do not have consistent access to a computer or internet, we can help you book on your behalf.
Requirement: We can help you book after you provide a signed "Student Consent and Release" form (DTC205). Our instructor can provide this form to you during our first lesson if needed.
Why we recommend self-booking: We suggest students book their own tests to ensure the time fits your school or work schedule, as you know your personal availability better than our instructors.
